EVP Recording Equipment
EVP (Elelctronic Voice Phenomenon) Recording Equipment.

evp's are in my opinion one of the most eerie types of phenomenon, disembodied voices and noises appear on tape or disk but isnt usualy heard by the human ear at the time of recording, these can be caught on a variety of different recording equipment, from inexspensive microcassette dictaphones to high quality digital devices. there is an argument as to what media is the best for recording evp's, digital is good as it cuts out alot of hiss associated with analogue tape, but a good quality tape device (of professional standard) will get similar results, i believe the key is in the michrophone used although good results have been caught on all types of media,

External microphones are advised as this cuts out motor noise which can be quiet noisy on cheaper devices, and use fresh tapes/disks (esspecially when using analogue tapes, old recordings can "bleed" through and may be interperated as paranormal)

Dictaphones

These are generally the cheapest type of device for recording EVP's, although the tapes can be a little exspensive compared to digital media, i have had good results with these, they are eay to operate, good for people on a budget, always try and get a model with an external microphone socket,

The next step up is a full size tape recorder using standard sized tapes, these are generally higher quality than dictaphones, always use decent brand tapes, these also have a better recording and playback heads for better clarity, again agood quality external microphones are advised, the tapes usualy less exspensive than the smaller microcassettes

We mainly use a mix of dictaphoones, standard tape and minidisc recorders, this is mainly due to our budget but in the short time i have carried out EVP experiments i have caught a few, the best was in my own flat,, it was caught on a dictaphone. we wont go into some devices other groups may use like reel to reel as we dont use them (due to our budget), but ive heard resuts can be very good with such devices

Digital Recorders for EVP

With new technology brings us digital recorders, these include minidisc, MP3, voice recorders(digital dictaphones), they have a mix of media such as disc memory and solid state memory, and in general the discs or media cards can be cheaper than anlogue in the long run, and the quality can be greater due to less hiss like you would get on tape, the recording times can be greatly increased also, depending on batteries used a single disc can record many hours (4-5 hours on some LP minidiscs).

Although it is advised to use fresh discs everytime you conduct EVP experiments, with digital media you dont have to be as stringent, if a you have a used disc it can be erased and used again 100's of times without loss of quality and ther will not be a risk of old material of bleeding through, for people on a budget this may be a good way to go, but make sure the material on the disk is not needed or has been checked carefully before any are erased (or formatted)

also copy any old investiagtion EVP experiments from disk before erasing as you may need these later for documenting purposes
