Orbs have exploded onto the paranormal scene and needs some serious research to find out what they are, one explaination is airbourne particles that float in front of the lens and when the flash is used the light illuminates some of this dust (depending on the reflective charateristics of the dust) if this dust fall within a certain area and distance in front of the lens then "orbs" may appear indeed do appear, this is very common on compact digital cameras as they have a greater depth of field ( they have a larger area in front of the lens before things become in focus) as airborne particles become out of focus they become fuzzy and appear larger the closer to the lens the are, now many people would believe that this is the only explanation and would like to forget all about orbs but we believe more work needs to be done as some orbs seem to show intelligence and react to human voice (very few though), and some orbs are caught during noticable suspected paranormal activity (temperature changes, emf fluctuations or a medium sensing something).
Orbs if you were to believe they are paranormal are said to be a basic spirit energy, it is said that an orb is the easiest shape that energy can form into, but much work needs to be done if we are to know for sure what they are.
To avoid the hassle of orbs i would advise a good quality 35mm camera (an SLR is the best) for the more dedicated investigator as very few orbs (if any) are caught on this format.
